Powering Local Communities

We’re building for your energy needs now and for years to come.

Null.

By investing in our systems, our infrastructure will better withstand extreme weather, be prepared for increasing electricity use, and improve safety. Investments are targeted, local, and designed to keep your energy flowing year-round.

Investing in the Bronx

  • Reinforcing the grid for the many transportation and delivery fleets and depots that are electrifying around the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center.
  • Supporting affordable housing projects throughout the Bronx by making available energy for buildings with electric heating and electric vehicle charging stations

Investing in Brookyln

  • Creating the Brooklyn Clean Energy Hub, a transformative project that to support reliable service and growing electricity demand. The climate-resilient hub, which will be in service by 2028, will connect clean energy resources, such as offshore wind, to the grid.
  • Developing the Gateway Park Area Substation, a key facility connecting a transmission network to a local distribution system. This new area substation will help balance and bring clean energy to Central Brooklyn.
  • Boosting reliability with upgrades in our Williamsburg Reliability Network, which serves Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Bed-Stuy.
  • Developing the Nevins Street Substation to improve electric grid reliability and growing electricity use by 2034.

Investing in Manhattan

  • Balancing energy loads to prepare for projected increased energy use in the East Village and the Financial District.
  • Burying overhead power lines that go from Queens to Manhattan to support the east side by keeping service reliable and resilient, especially during extreme weather.
  • Upgrading underwater transmission cables connecting the Bronx to Upper Manhattan.
  • Prioritizing gas safety by replacing leak-prone pipes and improving pressure of the gas system during the coldest days of the year, when gas is used most.
  • Protecting Lower Manhattan from future flooding and adding long-term system strength by supporting Battery Park City and East Side coastal resiliency projects.
  • Relocating and upgrading critical infrastructure to support the expansion of the Second Avenue Subway while maintaining reliable electric service and accommodating future growth.

Investing in Queens

  • Reinforcing cables with devices that swiftly detect and interrupt problems with underground electrical systems.
  • Preparing the grid for a battery storage system in Astoria that can store 100 megawatts of energy, enough to power the World Trade Center for a day, and make it available when it's needed most, supporting reliability in Queens.

Investing in Staten Island

  • Placing overhead electrical equipment underground to protect it from extreme weather at strategic locations.
  • Replacing vintage cables and wires to support reliability in neighborhoods such as Travis, New Springville, New Dorp, Grasmere, and Arden Heights.
  • Extending two major underground power cables that deliver electricity to North Shore neighborhoods to support growth and electrification.

Investing in Westchester

  • Enhancing electric infrastructure to withstand extreme weather, particularly in flood-prone areas, such as Mamaroneck, and Greenburgh, and raising critical equipment to avoid flood damage.
  • Upgrades to overhead electric system, such as bigger, stronger utility poles, to enhance reliability and resiliency.
  • Investing millions of dollars in the coming years to upgrade cables, conduits, and structures to meet growing electric demand while maintaining reliable service.
  • Continuing to replace leak-prone natural gas pipes and other gas infrastructure, improving system reliability and safety while reducing methane emissions.
