Demolition Requirements
Requesting the removal of Con Edison services for a demolition project involves three basic steps: gathering the required information, requesting a review of the removal, and then receiving a confirmation from us.
Step 1
You Request to Close the Account
- Close all Con Edison billing accounts associated with the property.
- Obtain a notarized letter from the property owner requesting the removal of Con Edison services.
- Include the property's unique identifier:
- New York City: Building Identification Number (BIN)
- Westchester County: SBL/Print Key
- Provide all Con Edison account numbers and meter numbers associated with the property.
Step 2
We Review
- After your request is submitted, we will review it to confirm:
- All required documentation has been received.
- All associated billing accounts have been closed.
- Customer, account, and meter information is accurate.
- Once the review is complete, the request will be processed as a demolition service removal request. If the status of the service cannot be confirmed, we may issue a Gas Investigate Work Request to Gas Operations to verify the condition of the service before demolition work can proceed.
Step 3
You Receive Confirmation
- After all services have been disconnected in the street, the Energy Services Department will provide a confirmation letter stating that the property's services have been disconnected.
- The letter will include:
- The Project Center case number
- The property's unique identifier (BIN or SBL/Print Key)
- The service address
