Steady Use Rate (formerly the 'Select Pricing Plan')
The Steady Use Rate is an optional electric rate that may save you money compared to the Standard Electric Rate.
Compare Rates
The Steady Use Rate is an optional electric rate that charges you based on how much energy you use at one time in kilowatts (kW) rather than how much total electricity you use over time in kilowatt-hours (kWh). If you use a lot of electricity but use it consistently throughout the day, without major spikes in usage, the Steady Use Rate could help you save money compared to our Standard Electric Rate.
Risk-Free for Heat Pump Users
Heat pump users often save with the Steady Use Rate compared to the Standard Electric Rate:
- Heat pumps use electricity all day and work most efficiently when you keep them at a consistent, comfortable temperature. Most customers who use heat pumps, like mini splits or geothermal systems, to heat and cool their homes save money on this plan compared to the Standard Electric Rate.
- Try it risk free for one year! After 12 months, we’ll compare what you paid on this plan with what you would have paid on our Standard Electric Rate. If you paid more, we’ll credit the difference to your bill. You can unenroll at any time with no penalty.

How to Enroll
Step 2
Eligibility
Any Con Edison customer with a smart meter can enroll in the Steady Use Rate.
If you have solar or net metering, you are likely not a good fit for the Steady Use Rate. The Standard Rate or Time of Use Rate may be better for you.
Important: If you enroll in this rate, you will not be eligible for incentives through our SmartCharge New York program.

HOW YOU’RE CHARGED |
Standard Rate You’re charged based on how much electricity you use (kWh), no matter when you use it. |
Steady Use Rate You’re charged time of use for the electricity you consume, so it’s less expensive during off peak times (weekdays 8 p.m- Noon, weekends, and holidays). |
|
HOW YOU’RE CHARGED |
Standard Rate Flat rate based on how much electricity you use (kWh), no matter when you use it. |
Steady Use Rate Average of the three highest points of use during off peak and three highest points during peak times. Each average is then multiplied by the corresponding peak and off-peak rates. |

WHO IT’S BEST FOR |
