Smart Usage Rewards
About Smart Usage
The Smart Usage program rewards participants for decreasing their building’s energy use during the summer, when the demand for energy is at a yearly high. Using less energy helps reduce strain on the energy grid and ensures every customer has safe and reliable power when they need it the most. Reducing your building’s energy use can also help you create new revenue streams during the summer.
This program is free and available to Con Edison customers in New York City and Westchester. There is no cost to enroll or participate, and you may opt out at any time.
Deadline
You can enroll for Smart Usage Rewards at any point throughout the year, but you will only be able to earn rewards from May 1 to September 30.
Rewards
Your reward will come as a financial payment from your Smart Usage Partner. Your reward amount will be determined by the Smart Usage Partner you choose and how much energy you reduce.
How it Works
Step 1: Choose and enroll with a Smart Usage Partner.
Find a partner
Step 2: Receive alerts about energy events.
An energy event is a period of high energy demand. Your Smart Usage Partner will notify you when one occurs so that you can reduce your energy use temporarily.
Step 3: Reduce your energy.
Reducing energy usage during an energy event earns you rewards. This may include raising the temperature setting on your A/C or thermostat to a warmer, but comfortable, temperature; turning off lights in empty rooms; and shifting use of large appliances, such as your washer/dryer, dishwasher, and electric oven.
Step 4: Redeem rewards.
You’ll receive a financial payout from your Smart Usage Partner.
