How to Submit an Electricity Meter Reading

Missed our meter reader? Send us your own reading to avoid an estimated bill or schedule an appointment.

Submit Your Meter Reading

Log in to My Account, email us a photo of your meter, or give us a call.


Email Us Please include your account number in the body of the email, and make sure the numbers on the meter are readable in your photo.

Call 1-800-491-0095 Before 11p.m. on the scheduled meter reading date, or between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. the following day.

How to Read a Meter With Dials

  • RULE 1

    If the arrow is between two numbers, always select the lower number, except when between 0 and 9. In that case, you'd select 9 since the 0 represents 10.

  • Rule 2

    If the arrow is on a number. look at the dial to the right. If the right dial points to a number greater than 4, subtract 1. If the dial is between 9 and 0, subtract 1 since the 0 represents 10.

  • Rule 3

    If the arrow is on a number, look at the dial to the right. If that dial’s arrow is between 0 and 1, record the number as the arrow indicates.

  • Rule 4

    On the rightmost dial only, if the arrow is pointing directly at a number, record that number.

Schedule an Appointment

For a $19 fee, you can schedule a meter reading appointment.

If you recently stopped service and have a smart meter, your final bill will be based on your actual usage up until when your service stops. If not, your final bill will be estimated based on your past energy use. Don’t want an estimated bill? You can either pay for Con Edison to read your meter within two days of closing your account or, if you have access to your meter, you can submit your own reading.
