Con Edison Asks Customers In Areas of Staten Island to Conserve Energy
Company Reduces Voltage by 8 Percent to Maintain Reliability
Con Edison is asking customers in three pockets of Staten Island to conserve energy while company crews repair equipment. Con Edison has reduced voltage in the areas by 8 percent to protect equipment and maintain service.
The largest area is on the northern part of the island and bounded by Kill Van Kull on the north, Bard Avenue, Victory Boulevard and Richmond Avenue on the east, Arthur Kill Road on the south, and the Arthur Kill Waterway on the west.
A second area is in the southeastern part of Staten Island and bounded by Dewey Avenue on the north, Graves Avenue on the east, Raritan Bay on the south, and Richmond Avenue on the west.
A third area is in southern Staten Island and bounded by Veterans Road West on the north, Page Avenue on the east, Surf Avenue on the south and Sprague Road on the west.
The conservation request covers these neighborhoods: West Brighton, Livingston, Port Richmond, Castleton Corners, Sunnyside, Mariners Harbor, Arlington, Bloomfield, Chelsea, Travis, Great Kills and Richmond Valley. These areas include 41,200 customers.
The equipment problems in these neighborhoods have no effect on the rest of the Con Edison system.
Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. The company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning. If you have two air conditioners, use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature.
The company also requests that customers refrain from charging electric vehicles until repairs are made.

When calling, customers should report whether their neighbors also have lost power. Customers who report outages will receive updates with their estimated restoration times as they become available.
