Systems Manager From Queens Wins Con Edison’s Highest Honor

Alecia Copeland-Barrett Earns Award for Operational Excellence and Focus on Worker Safety

A Con Edison systems manager from Queens has won the company’s highest honor for her relentless focus on customer service and operational excellence, as well as her dedication to strengthening New York City’s communities.

Alecia Copeland-Barrett, a systems manager in the Work Management Solutions Design Engineering group, is a winner of the Living Our Values Award, given to high-achieving employees who demonstrate extraordinary character and skills on and off the job.

“In a company as big and complex as Con Edison, the opportunity to update and improve systems and processes never ends,” said Copeland-Barrett. “It’s a joy working to find ways to help our company’s workers do their jobs as productively and safely as possible, and I’m honored to receive this award.”

“Alecia’s attitude is that every problem has a solution, and any desired result is achievable,” said Denise Reid, Director, IT Work Management Solutions. “Even small improvements in our operations can meaningfully influence the lives of our workers and customers. Above all else, Alecia wants to see Con Edison’s women and men return home safely to their families each day, and her work has made a lasting impact in this area.”

Copeland-Barrett began her career with Con Edison in 2005 as an analyst in Gas Operations. In those 17 years, she has managed numerous large, complex projects that streamlined business processes, reduced costs for the company and its ratepayers, and improved safety.

Through it all, Copeland-Barrett impresses her colleagues with her can-do attitude and focus on going the extra mile.

Last year Copeland-Barrett completed a multi-year project to update a mainframe system used to track information on all telecommunications devices Con Edison uses. Previously, she was on a review team that analyzed employee injuries and produced training materials to prevent future injuries.

Beyond her day-to-day job at the company, Copeland-Barrett is a member of the IT group’s local Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council. She continually demonstrates her commitment to making sure that all team members have a seat at the table and know their ideas are valued.

Outside of work, Barrett-Copeland participates in a wide range of volunteer activities across New York City. Those activities include working with young women living in shelters in Brooklyn, and mentoring college-bound students in the Bronx and Harlem.
