Con Edison's Elvimar Rivas Earns ASPIRA's Circle of Achievers Award

Con Edison’s Elvimar Rivas has won the ASPIRA Latino Achievers Award for promoting diversity and advocating for the inclusion of marginalized groups in the workplace.

Rivas, a senior analyst in Con Edison’s Steam division within the Technology Applications and Cyber Security department, dedicates much of her time to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

She helped organize an employee resource group to promote greater involvement and inclusion of individuals with disabilities. She has also helped planinitiatives with other employee resource groups at Con Edison.

“I’m very grateful and honored to be recognized with this award,” said Rivas, who has worked for Con Edison since 2013. “I am passionate about diversity and inclusion because seeing different perspectives makes us a stronger company. We serve New York City, one of the most diverse places in the world, and we should reflect that in our workplace.”

Rivas, whose colleagues call her Elvi, holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Monroe College and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Manhattan College. She lived in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic and has lived in the Bronx since she was 6 years old.

ASPIRA, which began in 1961, helps young people develop leadership skills and advocates for improving education in Latino communities. The organization began under the leadership of Antonia Pantoja, an educator and social worker who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton.
