Clean Energy Update

New Yorkers are increasingly choosing electric cars, solar panels, fossil-fuel-free heating systems, and other low-carbon technologies. Track progress in New York City and Westchester here and read our Clean Energy Commitment to learn how we are building the energy grid of the future together.

Solar Energy

Our customers have now installed 64,700 solar systems totaling more than 579 MW of capacity, driving New York toward its clean energy goals. These customers are lowering their energy bills, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and making the energy grid more resilient by helping meet demand for power at times when the sun is shining.

Battery Storage

Battery storage can help maximize the use of renewable power, bolster reliability at times of high energy demand, and give customers more control over their energy use. We’re working to promote the efficient operation of 1,000 megawatts of energy storage in the New York metropolitan region by 2030.

Electric Vehicles

The future of driving is electric, and we are all in on EVs. Through our PowerReady incentive program, we’ll support the installation of around 25,000 charging plugs by 2025, on the road to 400,000 plugs in 2035—and 1 million by 2050. Meanwhile, we’ve committed to electrifying our own fleet of light-duty vehicles by 2035, with an interim goal of 80% by 2030.

Building Electrification

We envision most buildings in our service territory will have electric heating systems by 2050, as we aggressively transition away from fossil fuels. We aim to invest billions of dollars reducing carbon emissions from buildings in our service area, including electrifying space and/or water heating in more than 150,000 buildings by 2030.
