Con Edison Says Take 10: 10 Minutes at 10 a.m. July 10 to Be Counted in the 2020 Census
Con Edison is joining with New Yorkers who want everyone who hasn’t done so to stand up and be counted in the 2020 census by taking 10 minutes at 10 a.m. tomorrow to fill out a census form at www.2020census.gov. The reason? Undercounting New Yorkers in the census means short-changing the state, and all of us, for its share of federal dollars for the next 10 years. Undercounting also could result in the state’s loss of one or two congressional seats.
“We’re urging everyone to take 10 minutes to ensure that New York is fairly and accurately represented in the 2020 Census,” said Frances Resheske, Con Edison’s senior vice president of Corporate Affairs. “Decisions about federal funding for schools, housing, transportation, and other vital services are based on census data. A low response rate will have a negative impact on our city for decades to come.”
Con Edison has sponsored the Association for a Better New York (ABNY) in its efforts to make sure that every New Yorker is counted.
ABNY’s request to all businesses, nonprofits, cultural and neighborhood organizations to give employees 10 designated minutes to complete the 2020 U.S. Census this Friday at 10 a.m. also is being supplemented by a program to get younger New Yorkers signed up.
ABNY is launching a series entitled “Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Counted.” It involves conversations this month with three remarkable leaders around organizing, strategizing, and engaging their communities to accurately tally the count.
Every Wednesday at 1 p.m. from July 15 to July 29th, conversations will be held with influential young people describing their efforts to lead their communities into action. Each of them are taking action in creative, resonant ways and will share their best practices.
