Con Edison and Homeadvisor Play Matchmaker for Consumers and Energy Efficiency Contractors

Addition to Marketplace Site Makes Appliance Installation Easier

Visitors to Con Edison’s popular Marketplace website can now click their way to pre-screened local contractors to help with installing and maintaining energy efficient products.

The energy company and Enervee – which powers the Marketplace - have formed a partnership with HomeAdvisor. That company vets contractors that perform home improvement, product installation, maintenance and repair services and then provides the contact information and quotes to consumers.

“This new feature is the latest addition to our Con Edison Marketplace to make it easier for people to buy products that can help lower their energy usage and save money,” said Cristina Coltro, who manages the Marketplace for Con Edison. “Consumers can choose from HomeAdvisor’s list of contractors with the peace of mind of knowing those contractors have been screened for their reliability, integrity and business practices.”

To get to the HomeAdvisor platform from the Marketplace, a visitor chooses an appliance, such as an air conditioner, thermostat, dishwasher or other product. Once the visitor clicks on the product, the HomeAdvisor icon appears on the right side of the screen.

After clicking on the icon, the user enters a zip code and basic information about the project. The site provides quotes from qualified local contractors.

HomeAdvisor has checked the contractors’ licenses, identification, and whether there is any history of criminal behavior or civil judgments.

HomeAdvisor has a network of more than 200,000 screened and engaged professionals across the country.

Con Edison began its Marketplace site in 2016 as a way to help consumers determine which energy efficient products are right for them and to provide them with leads. Consumers can compare products based on energy efficiency scores and pricing and get discounts. More than 1.2 million consumers have visited the site.

The site also includes a tool that allows residential customers to get individualized information on how much they can save by installing solar panels. The site lets the customer get bids from installers and helps manage the buying process.

Another platform added last year, Con Edison Cars, lets car shoppers get information on the costs and environmental impact of buying and owning various car models, including plug-in electric vehicles and hybrids.
