Queens Resident Gets Business Award for Con Edison & Community Work
Asian American Group Honors Daniel Chen
A Con Edison department manager from Jamaica Estates, Queens has earned recognition from the Asian American Business Development Center for his professional and community achievements.
The center named Daniel Chen, Con Edison’s department manager in Manhattan Energy Services, one of the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business. The award is for corporate professionals who exhibit growth, leadership and ethics.
“I’ve been fortunate to hold a number of jobs during my 16 years at Con Edison and in each one I’ve tried to keep in mind that the decisions I make affect our customers,” Chen said. “This award is gratifying because it recognizes my work on behalf of our customers and the contributions I try to make outside of work to help New Yorkers.”
Chen served as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of captain before returning to civilian life in 2002. That’s when he joined Con Edison as an operating supervisor in Electric Operations.
He now oversees the group that is responsible for helping building owners, developers and managers in Manhattan obtain gas and electric service from Con Edison. The group handles 15,000 projects a year.
He has served on the board of directors and as president of the Jamaica Estates Holliswood Briarwood Little League. He is an member of Shelter Rock Church and a coach in the Promise International Ministries' youth volleyball outreach program. As a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he continues to support the school's physical and academic programs.
Chen’s oldest son, Timothy, now attends the Military Academy.
Chen earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Military Academy, and a master's degree in engineering management from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
