Con Edison Asks Customers in Several Staten Island Neighborhoods to Conserve Energy

Company Reduces Voltage by 8 Percent to Maintain Reliability

Con Edison is asking customers in several Staten Island neighborhoods to conserve energy while company crews work to repair equipment problems.

The affected area includes 60,000 customers and is bounded by Richmond Terrace on the north, Manor Road on the west, Richmond Avenue on the south and East Shoreline (Father Capodanno Road and Hylan Boulevard) on the east.

Con Edison has asked customers in New Brighton, St. George, Tompkinsville, Brighton Heights, Ward Hill, Stapleton, Grymes Hill, Clifton, Silver Lake, Rosebank, Ft. Wadsworth, Grasmere, Concord, Arrochar, South Beach, Ocean Breeze, Midland Beach, Grant City, New Dorp, and Dongan Hills not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, microwaves and, if not needed for health or medical reasons, air conditioners, until the equipment problems are resolved.

Con Edison has also reduced voltage by 8 percent in these neighborhoods as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are made.

Text REG to OUTAGE (688243) to sign up for text notifications, and follow the prompts. You will need to enter your Con Edison account number to complete the registration process. Once you've registered, you will not need your account number to report or check the status of a power problem.

When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.

Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available.
