Preguntas frecuentes sobre el mapa de cortes

  • You can view the map using your web browser or by downloading Con Edison’s free app in the Google Play and Apple stores.

"Customers Out of Service" refers to the quantity of customers’ homes and businesses impacted by an identified outage. "Customers Served" refers to the customers we provide service to in each county or municipality. The impact of the outage can be determined by looking at the total customers served and total number out of service.

Triangle icons indicate the location of a specific outage. Since outages can affect varying numbers of Con Edison customers, the icons are color coded according to the size of the outage. The color of the icon indicates how many customers are affected. Each icon also has information on the estimated time of restoration, crew status, and outage cause. Learn more by opening the Map Elements key.

The symbol indicating an outage is placed nearest the problem, such as a transformer or utility pole. Often an outage will affect multiple homes and businesses. Zoom in on the map to see your address and any others affected nearby.

  • When looking at the map, you may not find an outage indicated directly over your home or business when you are without power. This is because one outage on the map may represent multiple homes and businesses. For any given outage, the outage symbol is placed at a center point on the map in relation to all customers affected by that outage. The outage may cover several streets or, in case of major events, even miles. If you are using the “View by Location” option, (found under Map Elements on the left hand menu) you can hover over the cluster of triangles to zoom to a lower level of information concerning your outage.

  • Estimated Time of Restoration is Con Edison’s best estimate as to when your power will be restored. As more information becomes available, we may update the initial estimated restoration time provided, if needed.

Con Edison will inform customers via press release, website banners, and social media of the system-wide Estimated Time of Restoration, which is when we estimate the vast majority of customers affected by outages in all areas will have service restored.

On the Outage Map, you can view the Estimated Time of Restoration in a few ways.

    1. Borough/County Estimated Time of Restoration
When you are viewing by Borough/County, you’ll see the entire borough or county highlighted in colors on the map. By clicking on it, the information panel on the right side of the screen will show the latest time we believe customers will be restored in that borough/county.

    2. Municipality Estimated Time of Restoration
Applicable to Westchester only. When you are viewing by Municipality, you’ll see each municipality highlighted in colors on the map. By clicking on them, the information panel on the right side of the screen will show the latest time we believe customers will be restored in that municipality.

    3. Area Estimated Time of Restoration
When you are viewing by Area, you’ll see icons on the map indicating the number of outages in that location. The Estimated Time of Restoration shown on the information panel on the right side of the screen is the latest time we believe any customer in the shown area will be restored. The Area Estimated Time of Restoration may be either the Companywide, Borough/County, or Municipality Estimated Time of Restoration as described above. Many customers in the area will be restored before this time.

    4. Estimated Time of Restoration
When you click on one outage icon shown on the map, the information panel will display the street address and the specific Estimated Time of Restoration for that one address if available.

In addition, customers who report their outage will receive updates on their specific Estimated Time of Restoration via text message or automated phone call.
