Energy Services supports building and remodeling projects that need utility coordination — like new service, service upgrades, or grid connection for certain equipment. Once you or your licensed contractor submits a request online in the Project Center, you can check your property’s project status, track progress, and see next steps.
What is an Upgrade?
Upgrades can involve switching from gas, upgrading your panel, or adding HVAC. Some examples of upgrades include:
General Energy Upgrades: Projects that modify or add to your property’s existing electric or gas systems or are preparing your property for future upgrades.
Electrification: Projects that replace fuel powered equipment with electric alternatives. Learn More
Distributed Energy Resources (DER): Systems that generate, store, or manage electricity on‑site. Learn More
How to Choose a Contractor
Not every job calls for the same expertise. You’ll want to match the scope of your upgrade to the right professional.
Smaller Upgrades
For smaller jobs that don’t add major new electric load—like insulation or minor HVAC work— you can hire any licensed professional as long as they meet local licensing and code requirements.
Larger Upgrades
If your project involves larger electrical changes or clean energy equipment, such as distributed energy resources (DER) like solar panels, EV chargers, or battery storage, you'll benefit from working with a contractor who participates in Con Edison programs and is equipped to:
- Help you find rebates, incentives, and more
- Handle clean energy installations and DER technologies
- Navigate utility requirements and interconnection processes
- Keep your project moving from planning to installation
Participating Contractor Requirements
You are required to use a Con Edison Participating Contractor for any Electrification project. You should use a contractor based on the type of project you plan to undertake.
