Restoring Power After the Blizzard

As heavy snow continues to melt and mix with road salt, localized power outages are occurring and may continue over the coming days.

Con Edison’s electric system is built for exceptional reliability, with most customers having uninterrupted power during the recent blizzard.

As temperatures rise, the melting snow mixed with road salt will seep underground and can corrode wires and stress equipment. This can lead to localized outages and, in some cases, manhole fires.

How Melting Snow and Salt Affect Underground Equipment

Working Conditions Continue to Be Challenging

Remaining snow and ice can block access to our underground equipment, which can slow damage assessments and repairs. If you experience an outage, we estimate your restoration time based on current conditions and our initial assessment. As crews dig out manholes and begin repairs, they may find additional damage that requires more time to fix, which can cause restoration times to change.

Power Recovery Efforts Underway

We’ve secured extra crews and are committed to restoring power as quickly and safely as possible. Crews are working around the clock and will continue to work until every customer has their power back.

Always Report Outages to Get Updates

If you lose power, report your outage to get a personalized restoration estimate via text, email or phone call. If your restoration time changes, we’ll let you know.

Chose how to report your outage:
