Girl Scout Leader Sheryl Coleman Wins Con Edison's Highest Award

A Con Edison employee, who also is the leader of a Girl Scout Troop, has won the company’s highest honor, the “Living Our Values” (LOV) Award.

Sheryl Coleman has worked for the energy company for 26 years, and for many years has also volunteered at Girl Scout Troop 506 in Suffolk County, N.Y. She teaches the girls to help people in need such as volunteering at the Mercy Inn soup kitchen in Wyandanch, N.Y.

As an inspector in the utility’s Brooklyn-Queens service region, she is the face of Con Edison for customers and contractors, handling everything from inspections to field visits and construction projects for retail and commercial customers.

“Sheryl always goes the extra mile with customers,” said Carlton Graham, her manager. “When a customer has a problem or a question, they are not going to contact electric services or gas operations, they call Sheryl and depend on her for answers.”

Sheryl is also a volunteer at the Freedom Chapel in Amityville, N.Y. focusing on study groups for children and the basketball program.

“I do things the way I was raised,” Sheryl said. “I put myself in someone else’s shoes, whether as customer service at Con Edison or in my community.”

In Brooklyn and Queens, Sheryl is also a business woman operating beauty salon services. In particular, she provides beauty treatments for women who are confined to their homes “so they can feel good about themselves.”

“Winning the LOV award is so exciting. Just to know that the company acknowledges things that you do, it’s wonderful,” she said.
