In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the New York State Public Service Commission has approved the Electric and Gas Bill Relief Program for income-eligible New Yorkers.
No. The Electric and Gas Bill Relief Program is a one-time credit for customers who had a past due balance from bills for service through May 1, 2022.
Only customers who did not receive this credit in 2022 will be eligible to receive a bill relief credit in 2023.
Only customers who did not receive a bill-relief credit in 2022 are eligible for a bill-relief credit in 2023.
Residential customers are eligible to receive a one-time bill relief credit of up to $4,750 that will be applied automatically toward a past-due balance from bills for service through May 1, 2022.
Small business customers are eligible to receive a one-time bill relief credit of up to $11,000 that will be applied automatically toward a past-due balance from bills for service through May 1, 2022, if they:
- did not exceed a combined average monthly billed demand of 20 kilowatts (kW) during the previous 12 months, or;
- did not register any single demand in excess of 40 kW, and;
- used less than or equal to 750 dekatherms (dth) per year of gas.
If you're a residential customer, you may be eligible to receive a bill relief credit if you:
- did not previously receive a bill relief credit;
- reinstate your service by June 30, 2023, and;
- have an outstanding past due balance for service through May 1, 2022.
