Con Edison Asks Customers in Maspeth and Yorkville Neighborhoods to Conserve Energy
Con Edison is asking customers in the Maspeth neighborhood in Queens and in the Yorkville area of Manhattan to conserve energy while company crews work to repair equipment problems. Con Edison also has reduced voltage by 5 percent in those areas as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are made.
The Maspeth area in Queens includes 113,291 customers and is bounded by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and 51st Avenue on the north, the Brooklyn Borough line on the west, Jackie Robinson Parkway on the south, and Queens Boulevard and 75th Avenue on the east.
The Yorkville area in Manhattan includes 81,113 customers and is bordered by East 111th Street on the north, Fifth Avenue on the west, East 77th on the south, and the East River.
Company crews are working now to repair the problem. Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, microwaves and, if not needed for health or medical reasons, air conditioners, until the cable problems are resolved.
Customers can report outages and check service restoration status at www.conEd.com or by calling 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.
Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available.

The equipment problems in the Maspeth and Yorkville neighborhoods have no effect on the rest of the Con Edison system. Con Edison will provide updates to affected customers both directly and through the media as the situation warrants. The company is in constant communication with the New York City Office of Emergency Management.
