Con Edison Asks Customers In Parts Of Southwest Westchester, City Island, Woodlawn, North Riverdale And Southeast Bronx To Conserve Energy

Company Reduces Voltage By 8 Percent To Maintain Reliability

Con Edison is asking customers in certain neighborhoods in West Yonkers, Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley and Greenburgh in Westchester, and parts of City Island, Woodlawn and North Riverdale in the Bronx, as well as customers in the southeast Bronx, to conserve energy while crews repair equipment. Con Edison has reduced voltage in these areas by 8 percent to protect equipment and maintain service as crews make repairs.

The area is roughly bounded by the Hudson River on the west, the Bronx on the south, parts of Yonkers on the east, and parts of Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, and Greenburgh to the north. The area has approximately 80,000 customers and is roughly bound by Pelham Parkway on the north, Schurz Avenue on the south, the Bronx River on the west, and Eastchester Bay on the east. It also includes City Island.

The area of southeast Bronx includes parts, or all, of these neighborhoods: Bronx River, Bruckner, Castle Hill, Clason Point, Co-Op City, Country Club, Eastchester Bay, Edgewater Park, Harding Park, Middletown, Parkchester, and Pelham Bay. Also, Schuylerville, Soundview, Spencer Estates, Throggs Neck, Unionport, Westchester Square and West Farms. There are 91,500 customers in this area.

It is roughly bounded by Pelham Parkway on the north, Schurz Avenue on the south, the Bronx River on the west, and Eastchester Bay on the east. It also includes City Island.

The equipment problems in the area have no effect on the rest of the Con Edison system.

Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. The company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning. If they have two air conditioners, use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature.

The company also asks that customers refrain from charging electric vehicles in the area, except when necessary, while repairs are made.
