Brooklyn Brewery Is Hip Hops! Reducing Its Energy Use And Carbon Footprint

Con Edison Is Helping Businesses Like the Brooklyn Brewery Use Great Incentives to Upgrade and Improve Lighting

The people of the Brooklyn Brewery are proud of their commitment to their craft, customers, and home borough. LED lighting is one way they demonstrate that commitment.

The Brooklyn Brewery took advantage of nearly $50,000 of Con Edison incentives to upgrade to LED lighting in its brewhouse and other facilities, saving more than 205,800 kilowatt hours. The Brewery’s return on investment was accomplished in under a year.

“We wanted our lighting to be more efficient, reduce costs, and provide a better experience for our staff and customers,” said Kyle Wilson, director of brewery projects and Development. “I am happy to say this project accomplished these goals.”

Con Edison Programs Help Small- and Mid-Sized Businesses Reduce Energy Use and Achieve Clean Energy Goals

“New York City’s restaurant and bar industry works on very small profit margins and the pandemic has been devastating for these small businesses,” said Andrew Rigie, executive director of the New York City Hospitality Alliance. “Con Edison’s incentives and rebates can help this vital industry reduce its monthly energy costs, improve the customer experience, reduce its carbon footprint, and build back more sustainable businesses. It is a win-win-win.”

Con Edison offers special programs to help small and mid-sized businesses reduce their energy costs and achieve compliance with New York City’s Climate Mobilization Act, which requires cutting carbon emissions at least 40 percent by 2030 and over 80 percent by 2050.

The legislation applies a carbon emissions limit for businesses that own a single building over 25,000 square feet, or multiple building units with more than 50,000 combined square feet. The first emissions compliance deadline is 2024 and the next one is in 2030.

While most NYC buildings already comply with the 2024 emissions limit, nearly 75 percent of buildings will need to upgrade to meet the 2030 requirements.

How It Works

To date, more than 33,000 small and mid-sized businesses have received over $220 million of incentives and reduced their bills by over 963,000 megawatt hours.
