Bronx Resident Wins Con Edison's Highest Honor

Bronx resident Aruna Fornah, an operating supervisor in Con Edison’s Gas Operations department, has won the company’s highest honor, the Living Our Values award.

The recognition is presented annually to company employees who exemplify the values of service, teamwork and excellence, and who demonstrate concern for the quality of life in their communities.

Aruna landed a job as a mechanic at Con Edison in 2005 and quickly rose through the department. His positive and confident attitude, work ethic and integrity earning him the respect of colleagues and customers.

“I enjoy my job because I get to play a role in helping our company provide safe, reliable service to New Yorkers, which is our greatest priority,” he said. “It’s a big responsibility but I get great satisfaction out of providing our customers with a service they need to run their homes and businesses.”

Aruna, who immigrated from West Africa in 2002, has dedicated himself to helping others. He founded a scholarship to help young adults in his native country Sierra Leone attend college. One recipient used the opportunity to help start a career in public service and ran for Parliament. The program has become so successful, that former graduates now contribute to the program themselves.

The utility provides electric, gas and steam service to more than three million customers in New York City and Westchester County, New York.
