Con Edison Employee From Port Chester Wins Recognition as Woman Business Leader

A Con Edison general manager from Port Chester has won a YWCA award for her dedication to diversity and helping women and minorities succeed.

Deanne Ostrowski, who has worked for Con Edison since 2002, was named to the YWCA of New York City’s Academy of Women Leaders. She earned the recognition with her success in the workplace, advocacy of diversity and role as a mentor.

“The YWCA award recognizes values that we try to embody here at Con Edison,” Ostrowski said. “We believe in doing everything possible to help employees succeed, so that they can contribute to our providing the best customer service possible.”

Ostrowski is a general manager in Con Edison’s Bronx-Westchester Electric Operations group. She is responsible for helping to keep the company’s service in the Bronx and Westchester County safe and reliable.

The academy is a network of women leaders with more than 3,000 members nationwide. The nominees come from businesses and nonprofits that support the YWCA’s leadership programs for girls and programs for children in underserved neighborhoods.

Before joining Con Edison, Ostrowski spent 10 years in the military. That included four years in the U.S. Naval Academy and five years on active duty doing two Mediterranean Sea deployments, and one year in the reserves.

She is chair of a group called Veterans of Con Edison. That group helps attract, engage, and retain veterans in the company.

Ostrowski won a Seven Seals Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves – a U.S. Department of Defense program - for her dedication to vets, reservists and those still serving.

Outside of work, she is deeply involved in running softball clinics for girls and coaching youth sports. She was a coach in the Port Chester Youth Baseball League and for a girls basketball team. For six years, she coached for the Empire State Huskies, a year-round travel softball team.

In the Niagara Falls area – which is near where she grew up – Ostrowski and her family ran free softball clinics for girls and women who were underprivileged.

Ostrowski mentors high school girls and guides them on career development.

She has bachelor’s degree in general engineering and economics from the U.S. Naval Academy.
