Con Edison Warns to Stay Away from Downed Wires; Crews Working to Restore Power to Customers
Con Edison is warning everyone to stay away from any downed wires in the wake of yesterday’s storm as crews work to restore electric power to customers.
The company has restored power to about 6,000 customers, most of them in Westchester, and is working to restore service to 3,300 customers still without electricity. Over 3,000 of those remaining out of service are in Westchester, where downed trees have created havoc and road closures across the county.
Con Edison had extra crews and contractors in place in advance of the storm; over 320 Con Edison crews and 50 contractor crews are now working to restore service.
Yesterday’s storm reached a peak of about 10,000 outages in Con Edison’s service area just after 5 p.m. Five hours later, 6,000 of those customers had been restored.
The company expects to have the vast majority of customers restored by 11 p.m. tonight.
Customers can report downed power lines, outages and check service restoration status at www.coned.com or by calling 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.
Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available.
The company is asking customers in the affected communities to continue to conserve electricity even when their power is restored because of extensive damage to wires and cables.
