Con Edison Crews Restore Service to 9,000 Customers After Storm Hits the Area

Con Edison crews responded quickly to restore electric service to about 9,000 customers tonight after a fast-moving storm brought down power lines and are working to restore about 1,500 who remain without service.

Brooklyn was the area hit the hardest. More than 5,600 customers in the Midwood area lost service just after 7 p.m. due to downed power lines. Those customers were restored by 10:37 p.m.

Crews are still working on scattered outages in New York City and Westchester County.

It is possible that there might still be wires down in some neighborhoods. The company urges members of the public to stay away from any wires that are downed during storms. Call your local police department or 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633) to report downed wires.

Con Edison may assign workers to guard downed wires and keep people and pets away from them. These workers may be in unmarked vehicles, but they carry Con Edison identification.

Customers can also report outages and check service restoration status at conEd.com/reportoutage, with Con Edison’s mobile app for iOS or Android devices, or by calling 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).
