Con Edison Asks Customers in Part of Brooklyn to Conserve Energy
Company Reduces Voltage by 5 Percent to Maintain Reliability
Con Edison is asking customers in a section of northern Brooklyn to conserve energy and help keep service reliable while crews work on equipment problems.
Con Edison has also reduced voltage by 5 percent in the area as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service while crews make repairs.
The affected area includes 108,200 customers and is bounded by Newtown Creek on the north, the East River on the west, Pacific and Fulton streets on the south and Throop and Graham avenues on the east.
The area includes these neighborhoods: Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Clinton Hill and Fort Greene.
Con Edison has asked customers in the area not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, microwaves and, if not needed for health or medical reasons, air conditioners.
The voltage reduction was implemented in another area, but Con Edison has not issued a special appeal to customers in that area. That area is bounded by Pacific Street to the north, 5th Avenue to the west, 20th and 23rd streets to the south and Prospect Park to the east.
It includes the Park Slope, Prospect Heights and Windsor Terrace neighborhoods.
