Con Edison Continuing Flatiron Area Cleanup and Providing Assistance at Three Locations

Con Edison will work through the weekend on the cleanup of the streets and building facades near 5th Avenue and 21st Street in Manhattan, where yesterday’s steam pipe rupture released asbestos.

The company has restored steam service to 11 of the 27 buildings that lost service due to the rupture. Five buildings in the immediate vicinity of the rupture are without gas service.

Con Edison personnel will be at three locations again tomorrow to provide assistance to those affected. The locations are:

  • 10 E. 15th St., inside the Clinton School. Residents who cannot get back into their homes because of the evacuation should meet with Con Edison personnel who will be on-site for financial assistance from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Near 19th Street and Broadway and near 22nd Street and Broadway. Con Edison personnel will be at these two locations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting. Con Edison will provide claim forms and accept clothing that was worn by people who were in the area at the time of the rupture.

Claim forms also are available at conEd.com. Click the red banner at the top of the page.
