Con Edison Takes Commercial Customers On Cyber Trip To Energy Savings

Con Edison is taking managers of large buildings on an animated journey where they'll see how energy efficiency upgrades can save money and protect the environment.

he company's new Manage Energy microsite focuses users on 10 environments in a typical New York City retail and office building where technology can lower costs. Con Edison's Commercial and Industrial energy efficiency program will even provide incentives for the upgrades, off-setting some of the initial costs and shortening the time it will take the owner to get a return on the investment.

"We're trying to take our outreach to our large commercial customers to another level and that's what this website does," said Vicki Kuo, director of Energy Efficiency for Con Edison. "As New York's energy company, we have valuable expertise we can share with customers. We want to be the go-to source for energy efficiency information that customers can use to save money and keep our environment clean."

The interactive, 3-D site takes users inside places like the building's server room for information on computer room air conditioners, the equipment that keeps servers and other sensitive information in server rooms from overheating. An upgrade can save a significant amount of energy.

When the tour gets to the office space, the site user will learn about the savings potential of LED lighting, programmable thermostats and controlled ventilation.

The site also provides energy efficiency tips, energy calculators, videos, and case studies on businesses that lowered their gas and electric bills with the help of Con Edison's energy efficiency incentives. Those businesses range from a spa in Kew Gardens, Queens saving $1,281 a year to a data center management company in Lower Manhattan saving $300,000 annually.

The site explains how building owners can use their buildings to earn money by reducing their usage when demand for electricity is high.

Con Edison made the site live today in conjunction with the BuildingsNY show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
