Con Edison Asking Customers In Certain Brooklyn/Queens Neighborhoods To Conserve Energy

Company Reduces Voltage There By 8 Percent -- Con Edison is asking customers in Richmond Hill, Woodhaven, Ozone Park,  South Ozone Park, Kew Gardens, areas of East New York, Howard Beach and Broad Channel to conserve energy while company crews work to repair equipment problems.  Con Edison has also reduced voltage by 8 percent in those areas as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are made.

The affected area includes 138,000 customers in two boroughs and is bounded by Jackie Robinson Pkwy, Jamaica Bay, Queens Blvd/Van Wyck Expy and Alabama and Louisiana Avenues.

Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use appliances such as washers, dryers, air conditioners and other energy-intensive equipment and to turn off lights and televisions when not needed until the cable/equipment problems are resolved.

Customers can report outages and check service restoration status at or by calling 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.

Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available.

Also, download Con Edison’s new free iPhone and Android app, My conEdison, to report and check the status of a power problem, and view the company’s interactive online outage map.

Customers can follow Con Edison on Twitter or like us on Facebook for general outage updates, safety tips and storm preparation information.
