Con Edison Asking Customers In Midtown West To Conserve Energy

Company Reduces Voltage By 8 Percent -- Con Edison is asking customers in midtown west to conserve energy while company crews work to repair equipment problems. Con Edison has also reduced voltage by 8 percent in the area as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are made.

The affected area includes 12,700 customers and is bound by West 43rd Street on the north, Hudson River on the west, West 30th Street on the south and 7th Avenue on the east.

Con Edison has asked customers in this area not to use appliances such as washers, dryers, air conditioners and other energy-intensive equipment and to turn off lights and televisions when not needed until the equipment problems are resolved.

Customers can report outages and check service restoration status at ( or by calling 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.

Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available.
