Con Edison Customers Can Get Rewards For Acting 'Cool' With Room A/Cs
Con Edison customers who cool their homes with room air conditioners can earn gift cards by saving energy and helping the utility maintain its reliable service when temperatures soar this summer.
The company is offering the coolNYC program, which connects customers with smart technology to control their room air conditioners from their computer or mobile device.
During a heat event, Con Edison can adjust a participating customer's temperature setting to reduce energy usage and keep service reliable. The customer can override Con Edison"s adjustment.
"Thousands of our customers have saved money and enjoyed the convenience of being able to control their air conditioners remotely since we began this program in 2011," said David MacRae, manager of Residential Customer Solutions for Con Edison. "We"re expanding the program to give customers even more choices."
Customers whose air conditioners are not Wi-Fi-enabled can buy a smart AC kit or borrow one for free and keep it if they participate in at least three heat events.
Customers with Wi-Fi-connected Friedrich Kühl or Frigidaire Cool-Connect units can enroll these ENERGY STAR A/Cs and earn up to $125 in rewards.
Replacing an old air conditioner with a new ENERGY STAR unit can reduce energy usage by 15 percent. Con Edison will pay a $20 rebate to customers who buy a new ENERGY STAR air conditioner.
