Con Edison Employee Receives Hispanic Honor
Jenny V. Brito Named Corporate Achiever With ASPIRA of New York -- Con Edison employee Jenny V. Brito was one of four honorees recognized as a Hispanic Corporate Achiever at the ASPIRA of New York's 2015 annual Circle of Latino Achievers Gala on April 9, 2015. The awards acknowledged individuals for their efforts in making a difference in the Latino community.
"This is a great honor for me," said Brito. "The ASPIRA organization helped me develop the skills I needed for the corporate world and now I can return their service by speaking on their behalf and promoting their great work."Brito, a resident of South Ozone Park in Queens, N.Y., is currently the section manager in the gas conversion group for Gas Operations with Con Edison. She has been with the company for more than sixteen years. During her free time she participates in the company's corporate mentorship programs and is a long-time supporter of women in non-traditional roles."I encourage women and minorities to embrace engineering careers and break barriers as they move forward in their personal success," Brito said.This year marks ASPIRA of New York's 54th Anniversary. At the Circle of Latino Achievers gala, participants celebrated ASPIRA of New York's extraordinary success in providing more than 500,000 young people the tools they need to learn, grow and achieve.Brito is also on the board of the Long Island City YMCA. She completed her undergraduate work at Polytechnic University and received her MBA from Baruch College. She also volunteers as a speaker at the Queensborough Community College to motivate students in pursing STEM careers.Con Edison supports hundreds of nonprofit organizations in New York City and Westchester County to strengthen neighborhoods, sustain communities and improve lives. These philanthropic efforts support the arts, environment, and important educational initiatives in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Many of Con Edison's 14,000 employees share a personal commitment to the region's vitality through their own volunteer efforts and also choose to support education by utilizing the company's matching gifts program.
