Hot, Sticky Days Are Here; Save Energy, Save Money, Stay Cool
With temperatures pushing 90 degrees the next three days, Con Edison reminds customers to use energy wisely and save money.
"Con Edison offers a variety of energy-efficiency programs for savings. The company is offering $25 to residential customers who buy a new ENERGY STAR® room air conditioner between now and Aug. 29. By replacing an older room air conditioner with a new, more energy-efficient unit, a customer can reduce electricity usage by about 15 percent.
Funding is limited, and interested customers should take advantage now. For eligibility details, to download an application, or to apply online go to: http://www.coned.com/energyefficiency/room_ac_rebate_25.asp.

To prepare for the hot summer, Con Edison has also invested $1.3 billion this year on upgrades to its electric delivery system in New York City and Westchester. The summer peak demand forecast in Con Edison’s service area is 13,675 megawatts (MW) for New York City and Westchester County. The all-time system-wide record of 13,322 MW was set July 19, 2013 at 5p.m.
Con Edison offers the following money-saving conservation tips:
* Turn off air conditioners, lights and other appliances when not at home and use a timer to turn on your air conditioner about a half-hour before arriving home
* Keep A/C filters clean
* When the A/C is running, close doors to keep cool air in and hot air out
* Set your unit to 78 degrees. Every degree you lower the thermostat drives up your bill by 6 percent
* Use fans when possible
Customers can report outages and check service restoration status at www.conEd.com or by calling 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.
Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available.
