Gina Callender of Yonkers Receives Con Edison’s Highest Honor
Gina Callender of Yonkers has received Con Edison’s “Living Our Values” award, the company’s highest honor. The recognition is presented annually to company employees who exemplify the values of service, teamwork and excellence, and who demonstrate an overall concern for the quality of life in their communities.
"Callender, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College and an MBA in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has risen through a succession of positions at Con Edison to become a section manager in the company’s Bronx Gas Construction unit. She’s responsible for about 15 union employees and 10 contractor crews that complete gas leak repairs, install gas services and gas mains, and perform other gas construction duties.
“Gina is one of our most energetic managers,” said the company’s Gas Operations Vice President, Katherine L. Boden. “She builds a strong sense of team in her group and actively drives organizational improvement through her work on various committees, both inside our department and in cross functional forums. She is an avid world traveler, eagerly experiencing new cultures and bringing the best of them home to share with others.”
A native of the Hollis area in Queens, Callender showed an aptitude in math and science from an early age, and has dedicated herself to repaying the support she’s received from others by recognizing similar talents and skills in students and aspiring professionals, sometimes actively recruiting for Con Edison. She also serves as president of her cooperative board in Yonkers, where her civil engineering background has proved valuable during her building’s recent retaining-wall construction project.
Con Edison provides electric service to about 3.3 million customers and gas service to approximately 1.1 million customers in New York City and Westchester County. The work that Callender currently does also facilitates the many conversions from oil to natural gas now underway for residential and commercial heating, which will result in significant consumer savings as well as improvements in New York’s air quality."
