Fifteen Tons of Material Escape Waste Stream
On January 6, Con Edison joined the Lower East Side Ecology Center in hosting the fifth annual "After the Holidays Electronic Waste Recycling Drive." The event drew more than 500 New York City residents to Union Square Park with their old computers, televisions and other unwanted electronics. The electronics were transported to a recycling company and broken down into component parts and recycled. Reusable components, such as memory chips, were refurbished for resale. In total, the drive prevented more than over 37,000 pounds of materials from entering the waste stream.
