Con Edison Introduces a Greener Vehicle Fleet

June 24, 2008 – To enhance its commitment to environmental excellence, Con Edison announced today that it is increasing the use of environmentally friendly biodiesel fuel in its truck fleet and expanding its acquisition of "green" vehicles. 

Con Edison’s fleet of about 1,700 diesel trucks is using cleaner-burning B-20 biodiesel fuel, 20 percent of which is derived from soybeans. The soy-based portion of the fuel is a renewable resource that will help the company offset almost 400,000 gallons of petroleum per year. Newer diesel vehicles also will be equipped with special exhaust filters for even cleaner tailpipe emissions.  read more..


EPA Honors Con Edison for Replacing Oil Filled Lead Cable with ‘Green’ Cable

May 29, 2008 – The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today recognized Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. for environmental excellence.

The company has joined the EPA’s National Partnership for Environmental Priorities Program and committed to replacing, on average, 120 miles of paper insulated leaded covered cable (PILC) with nonleaded solid dielectric cable annually. Con Edison has already replaced over 4,000 miles of PILC, and plans to completely remove all PILC from its electrical system by 2020.  read more..


Con Edison Files New Energy Investment Plan, Seeks to Establish New Permanent Demand-Reduction and Energy-Efficiency Programs
