energy management

The demand for energy continues to rise in Con Edison's service area. The demand is fueled by many factors, including an increase in the use of electric appliances that are part of our New York lifestyle. Whether it's an additional room air conditioner, a storage freezer in the basement, computers, microwaves, hi-tech televisions, and home entertainment centers, we rely on these appliances for the comfort and convenience of everyday living.

Con Edison has several strategies to help ensure that the demand for energy is met and the highest quality of service reliability maintained. We continuously upgrade, reinforce, and expand our electric system. We also purchase the right mix of short- and long-term energy contracts to minimize price volatility. Our electric load management programs further enhance service reliability by offering electric customers opportunities to efficiently manage energy usage and costs. These programs are especially designed for residential customers:

Cool Technology For Your Home
Con Edison is offering technology that allows you to control your central air-conditioning manually while at home or via the Internet when you're on the go. With this technology, you'll be able to better manage your energy usage and get the most from your energy dollars. You'll also be helping Con Edison to provide reliable power and continued comfort for your home as well as for your neighbors. If you have central air-conditioning and want to receive a free programmable digital thermostat, or want to learn more about this offer, visit http://www.coned.com/cool, or call 1-866-521-8600.

Save — With Time-of-Use!
Energy-conscious customers can save money if you use electricity during off-peak periods when costs are lower.

Con Edison's Time-of-Use program is designed to encourage customers to reduce electricity use during peak hours. Under the program, you will be charged for electricity depending on when you use it. The rates are lowest on off-peak periods: weekends, holidays, and weekdays from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m., when usage and the cost of electricity are low. Rates are higher during other periods, when usage and the cost of generating electricity are much higher.
