emergency demand response program

The Program
The Emergency Demand Response Program (EDRP) may be activated by the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) as a response to power shortages or other emergencies. Con Edison will contact program participants with a request to voluntarily curtail their power use.

Requirements
Customers must have an interval meter (s) with a telephone line (s). The meter measures and records electrical use each hour; the data are used to verify load reduction and calculate appropriate payment. Incentives are available for the cost of the interval meter installations through New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). For more information, visit www.nyserda.org/programs/peakload/intermeter.asp or call 1-518-862-1090.

Customer Eligibility
Any Con Edison electric customer, who is capable of reducing at least 100 kW of load for four hours and has an interval meter, can participate in EDRP.
Customers enrolled in the Emergency Demand Response Program are not eligible to participate in ICAP.

Incentives
Customers will receive the greater of $.45 for each kilowatt-hour curtailed, or 90% of the price of energy in the real-time wholesale market, the real-time zonal Locational-Based Marginal Price.

As an added bonus, customers will receive Internet-based software, which can be used to identify ways to reduce electric loads and lower operating costs.

How to Enroll
To enroll in the EDRP, complete the application online or use the application form or contact Con Edison at dsm@coned.com, or call 1-800-643-1289.

For more information about EDRP, refer to the Con Edison Service Classification Rider V.
