Con Edison provides
steam service to its Manhattan customers south of 96th Street. To help
reduce peak summer electric load, Con Edison wants to encourage as many
of its customers as possible to switch over to steam-powered cooling.
We are offering reduced steam rates to help offset the costs of installing
new steam air-conditioning systems. It's the best choice for both economical
and reliable cooling.
Steam Air-Conditioning Summer Discount Program
The Steam Air-Conditioning Summer Discount program provides a monthly discount of $2.00 per 1,000 pounds for existing large steam commercial and residential (SC2 & 3) customers who install or have installed new or replacement steam air conditioning systems on or after October 1, 2006. The discount applies to summer (May through October) usage by the new steam cooling equipment, and for monthly usage above base minimum values. The program is applicable to both steam turbine as well as steam absorption equipment.
A customer applying for the reduction must notify us at least two months before installing a new or replacement air conditioning system. Eligibility is effective with the first summer monthly billing period (May through October) that commences subsequent to the date on which we receive written notice from you that the installation is complete. Under this program, Con Edison will provide this discount until at least September 30, 2008; the duration of the discount is typically two years. To facilitate customers’ investment decisions, Con Edison may, at its sole discretion, extend the duration of the discount, and/or make a one-time payment of the net present value of the bill reduction, if the customer commits to a contract term.
