Trees and plants can cause power outages and create unsafe situations for members of the public and our employees.
Remember the August 2003 Blackout? The blackout was caused, in part, due to the failure to maintain necessary tree clearances from
transmission lines in the Midwest. The event affected nearly 50 million people in eight states in the eastern United States and Canada and cost an estimated $6 billion.
That's why we have comprehensive vegetation management programs that address our tree management practices along transmission line rights-of-way and our distribution lines.
Con Edison Recognized for Tree Management Practices
The National Arbor Day Foundation named us a Tree Line USA Utility in 2009, 2010, and 2011 in recognition for our use of practices that protect and enhance America's urban forests. The Tree Line USA program promotes the dual goals of safe, reliable electric service and abundant, healthy trees across utility service areas.
