Times Square Project

As the city moves forward with the redesign of Times Square, Con Edison is working in advance of the project. We are upgrading and/or relocating the electric, gas and steam underground equipment in Times Square.

Con Edison is working ahead of the city to remove any equipment that may be in the way of the city's infrastructure, and to help the city stay on schedule. Our goal is to help the city finish the entire project by its target of 2015. By upgrading and/or moving equipment out of the Broadway pedestrian plazas today, we will reduce the likelihood that we'll need to dig up the area in the near future.

Most of the Con Edison work will start on 42nd Street and move northward. We will be working on both Broadway and Seventh Avenue.

General Hours of Operation
Broadway: 12 a.m. – noon, seven days a week.
Traffic and pedestrian agents will be available from 7 a.m. to noon.

Seventh Avenue: 12 a.m. – 7 a.m., Monday through Friday; 1 – 9 a.m., Saturday and Sunday.

Work Schedule and Special Events
Con Edison, the Times Square Alliance, and the city are coordinating to allow previously planned special events to proceed.

Storage Area
A storage area will be 8 by 100 feet on the south side of West 41st Street.

Access to Buildings
Con Edison will coordinate all activities with property owners to ensure access at all times.

Once the Broadway pedestrian malls are in place, there will be limited opportunities to install new energy infrastructure.
