Con Edison is committed to responsible stewardship of the environment - a commitment that includes helping customers and the general public gain a greater understanding of what they can do to sustain and nurture our planet. We support a wide array of community-based organizations, with special focus on energy efficiency, preservation of natural resources and parklands, environmental education, and green careers.

Con Edison Supports the Environmental Stewardship of NYC Residents:

Con Edison Supports the Environmental Stewardship of NYC ResidentsSolar One, New York City's first solar-powered “Green Energy, Arts, and Education Center,” inspires New Yorkers to become environmentally responsible city dwellers. Through a variety of unique programs, Solar One is able to reach out to broad sections of the New York City population and connect people to their urban environment. Since its inception in 2004, the Solar One education program has served over 19,000 students at more than 75 schools throughout the 5 boroughs.

Con Edison has supported Solar One's Green Career Job Training program and their Green Design Lab energy curriculum for over 5 years.

Con Edison Provides an Antidote to Concrete:

Con Ed antidote to concreteNestled in the East River, where the South Bronx, East Harlem and Astoria, Queens meet, is Randall's Island Park, a 480-acre oasis. The park, a jewel in an urban setting, has a special attraction for city dwellers, especially children who may have little access to natural habitats. The Randall's Island Sports Foundation (RISF), a partnership with the New York City Parks Department, has worked with Con Edison since 2001 to help hundreds of local public school children explore and learn from the island's forests and shoreline areas. It's an eye-opening experience for kids who ordinarily spend their lives surrounded by buildings, concrete and traffic. The park itself is a multifaceted combination of restored wetlands, wildlife habitat, sports and recreation.

Con Edison is proud to support the efforts of the Randall's Island Sports Foundation to recover and preserve the park's resources for generations to come.

Con Edison Helps Students Capture the Scene:

RYE Nature CenterThe Friends of Rye Nature Center is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to support the Rye Nature Center and to provide a full range of environmental education programs and activities at the Center.  Their programs encourage the protection of Rye's natural resources and promote environmental awareness in Rye and surrounding communities.

Con Edison supports one of the Friends' most popular environmental education initiatives, Project Regeneration. Project Regeneration is a series of workshops aimed at teaching forest conservation and regeneration. Using the forest as an onsite classroom, students engage in hands-on lessons involving the removal of invasive species, soil preparation, tree plantings and native seedlings. As a culmination to the program, students tap into their creativity and produce short films focused on what they learned throughout the year.

Con Edison Cleans Up Van Cortlandt Park:

Con Edison Cleans Up Van Cortlandt ParkThe Friends of Van Cortlandt Park (FVCP) works in partnership with the NYC Parks Department to protect, promote, and preserve Van Cortlandt Park in the northwest Bronx. The organization has conducted clean-ups, public events and tours for the general public since 1992. Their first project, the Summer Teen Program, spurred the organization's endeavor to become leaders in broader environmental initiatives. Since then, the organization has created a collaborative program with the local business community to provide care and maintenance for planters and street trees on Broadway and Gun Hill Road, academic programs in biodiversity, "birding" basics, and plant science for junior high school students.

Con Edison currently sponsors The Friends of Van Cortlandt Park's Trails Initiative Volunteer Program - an ambitious strategic plan to improve four of the 9.3 miles of hiking trails located in the park through volunteer efforts.
