NEW YORK - A Con Edison employee from Bayside, Queens has received recognition from the YWCA of the City of New York for her professional achievements, civic contributions and leadership.
Nancy Shannon, director of Environmental Health and Safety Field Services, received the Academy of Women Leaders Award.
Shannon has worked for Con Edison for 24 years. In her current job, she manages the chemical laboratory and directs the company’s response and spill management teams.
She was instrumental in starting a program that gives physics and chemistry students at The Summit School the chance to work with Con Edison lab professionals on assignments.
“To thrive, our economy needs bright, young minds in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields,” Shannon said. “The goal of our program is to show talented students at The Summit School that they can have productive, rewarding careers in chemistry.”
The program is in its third year at Con Edison’s lab in Astoria.
Shannon has a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University and is pursuing a master’s in industrial and organizational psychology from Baruch College.
