NEW YORK - Too good to be true? Con Edison will give $25 to residential customers who buy an ENERGY STAR® room air conditioner.
The company is offering the bounty to customers who make their purchase between May 20 and Aug. 30. Rebates are limited to two per account holder, and customers can find the application here: http://www.coned.com/energyefficiency/energystar.asp.
The program is part of Con Edison’s ongoing effort to help customers save money and protect the environment. ENERGY STAR® air conditioners use at least 10 percent less electricity than other models.
For customers with central air and heating systems, Con Edison is offering a free smart thermostat to control the temperature in their home, business or religious building remotely. With the thermostat, a customer can adjust the temperature via the internet or with a smart phone and save energy.
Con Edison will install the Carrier thermostats, valued at $300, for free. Residential or residential religious-rate customers will receive a gift of $25 after installation. Business customers will receive $50.
The thermostats allow Con Edison to remotely adjust the amount of electricity a central air-conditioning system uses. Con Edison will make those adjustments when it needs to reduce electricity use. A customer can override the company’s adjustment.
Customers can get information here: coned.com/cool.
Residential customers living in one- to four-family homes who replace older heating and cooling systems with energy-efficient systems through the Green Team can save money on their utility bills. With Con Edison’s Heating and Cooling Rebates for Homes program, participants can apply for rebates up to $1,000 per installed measure. For information, go to: http://www.coned.com/energyefficiency/residential_HVAC_program.asp.
