NEW YORK – Nelson Yip, a Con Edison section manager in Manhattan Electric Construction, was named by the Asian American Business Development Center as one of the 50 Outstanding Asian Americans in Business.  Yip was recognized by the national organization for his outstanding leadership and dedication in the communities the company serves. 

This year, the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award will have cumulatively honored more than 500 successful Asian American women and men from multiple ethnic backgrounds, representing over 50 industries and professions.

Yip, a resident of Astoria, NY has held positions of increasing responsibility in his 10 years with Con Edison in electric distribution and operations. Currently a section manager in electric construction, Yip’s focus has been on safety, quality, customer service and open communication. He was a key contributor to getting power restored to customers following emergencies such as Hurricane Irene and other major events.

“This award is really a tribute to the opportunities Con Edison provides,” said Yip. “The company makes a great commitment to talent and leadership development, and to providing its employees with opportunities to volunteer and give back to the communities where we deliver energy.”

The Asian Americans in Business awards were held on June 19 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The organization’s mission is to assist Asian American businesses strengthen their capacities to compete in the mainstream marketplace, expand business opportunities and promote greater recognition of Asian American businesses' contributions to the general economy.
