NEW YORK – Adrienne Austin has received Con Edison’s “Living Our Values” award, the company’s highest honor. The recognition is presented annually to company employees who exemplify the values of service, teamwork and excellence, and who demonstrate an overall concern for the quality of life in their communities.

Austin joined the New York City and Westchester-based utility in 1974, straight out of Evander Childs High School in the Bronx. Both her father, Leroy Scott, and one of her grandfathers, Richard Bair, also worked for Con Edison. For the last 37 years, she’s followed in their footsteps. Along the way, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Business from the College of Staten Island and a master’s degree in Energy Management from New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, both done with the assistance of the company’s Tuition Aid Program.

Austin is a section manager in Con Edison’s Retail Choice Operations area. As a result of energy deregulation, customers have the option of having their energy supplied by a company other than Con Edison. (Con Edison still delivers all the energy in the utility’s service area, even though customers have the option of selecting another company to supply it.) Adrienne works closely with consumer staff at the New York State Public Service Commission, ensuring that operations proceed smoothly in Con Edison’s Retail Choice program. Through her efforts, the program has grown; over 800,000 of Con Edison’s 3.2 million customers purchase energy from an energy services company (ESCO),

“Adrienne understands and embraces her unique role of balancing Con Edison’s needs with those of our customers and the energy service companies that do business in our service territory,” said Rebecca Lynch, general manager of Specialized Activities Customer Operations. “She has an excellent track record of working on complex matters inside and outside the company, and has received high praise from regulators, competing energy service companies and colleagues for her honesty, sensitivity, and acumen.”

The Old Bridge resident is married and the mother of three, and still manages to find the time to devote to a host of industry, community, and volunteer efforts.
