NEW YORK – Jeffrey Legree, a native of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, received Con Edison’s highest employee honor, the “Living Our Values” award.

This recognition is given annually to Con Edison employees who exemplify the company’s values of service, teamwork, excellence, and concern for the quality of life in their community. Five other employees also were honored.

Legree joined the company in 2006 as a General Utility Worker (GUW). He is a mechanic on the Manhattan North Gas Construction team. His job responsibilities include installing, replacing and repairing gas mains. His team plays an instrumental role in a number of major New York City projects, most notably, the construction of the Second Avenue subway in Manhattan.

“Because of Jeff’s positive attitude, his willingness to learn, his ability to lead and teach others, he was chosen as one of the key mechanics to work on this project,” said Rica Johnson, section manager, Con Edison Manhattan Gas Operations. “Within five years he’s become a qualified, well trained A-mechanic,” she added.

Legree’s work ethic parallels his attention to his family and community. He’s a husband and a dedicated father of seven who serves as a mentor at the Brownsville Community Center in Brooklyn. There he has helped hundreds of young people in the community where he was born and raised. He works with kids of all ages in football, basketball, tutoring and counseling.

“I’m humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Legree. “I have a rewarding career, I meet nice people and I work in the best gas yard in the company!”

First presented in 1992, Con Edison created the “Living Our Values” award so that something intangible, such as an employee’s values and work ethic, could be transformed into something visible and concrete.
