MORGANVILLE RESIDENT DAVID RIVERA
WINS CON EDISON’S HIGHEST HONOR
NEW YORK – David Rivera, a resident of Morganville, N.J. and a senior specialist in Electric Operations for Con Edison, has won the company’s highest honor, the “Living Our Values” award.
Rivera, who joined the company in 1981, was chosen for exemplifying Con Edison’s values of service, teamwork, excellence and community service.
“David dedicates himself to providing excellent customer service, working in teams and solving problems,” said Joseph Lenge, manager of Electric Operations for Brooklyn and Queens. “His desire to excel, his upbeat attitude, and his concern for his co-workers and community have earned him the respect of everyone here at Con Edison.”
Rivera is part of a team that engineers and manages capital investments in Con Edison’s electrical distribution system. The company makes improvements to its infrastructure based on forecasts for electrical demand in an area.
One of his most challenging and important projects was managing the creation of the Borden and Sunnyside electrical distribution networks in northwest Queens, a job the utility completed last year. Previously, those areas were part of Con Edison’s Long Island City network.
Rivera said the project was challenging because Con Edison had to plan and work around subway and railroad easements in the area. He also had to coordinate the street work with the construction of the company’s Newtown substation.
“It was the most rewarding project I’ve had,” Rivera said. “The satisfaction comes from knowing that customers in these neighborhoods have more reliable service. But I’m proud of all my team’s accomplishments. If you have a good team, anything is possible.”
Rivera’s good work does not end when he leaves Con Edison each day. He and his wife of 26 years, Rebecca Rivera, have a son, Andrew 20, and a daughter, Emma, 16.
David Rivera coached his children’s youth baseball, football and softball teams throughout their childhoods. He has helped run a Booster Club to raise money for the Freehold Borough High School varsity softball team.
He is also active with his church, Calvary Chapel of Old Bridge. He regularly opens his home to fellow parishioners for meetings at which they talk about their faith, their families and other topics.
Con Edison is a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc. [NYSE: ED], one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy companies, with approximately $13 billion in annual revenues and $36 billion in assets. The utility provides electric, gas and steam service to more than three million customers in New York City and Westchester County, New York.
