CON EDISON ENDS CALL FOR REDUCED ELECTRICITY USE
ON THE UPPER WEST SIDE
NEW YORK – Problems on electrical equipment on the Upper West Side have been resolved, and Con Edison is ending its 11:45 p.m. request from Friday evening urging all customers west of Central Park between West 71st Street and West 110th Street to discontinue use of non-essential electrical appliances.
Con Edison had implemented a voltage reduction on the Upper West Side requesting that customers temporarily avoid using washers, dryers, air conditioners and other energy-intensive equipment.
Customers can report power interruptions or service problems as well as view service restoration information online at www.conEd.com and on their cell phones and PDAs. Customers may also call Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.
The company routinely provides updates to affected customers when these situations occur, both directly and through the media, as the situation warrants. The company is in constant communication with the New York City Office of Emergency Management and the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services.
