CON EDISON WINS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING SYSTEM-WIDE RELIABILITY
New York Utility Also Receives ReliabilityOne™ Award for Northeast Region

WASHINGTON, DC – Con Edison has been named winner of the 2010 Outstanding System-Wide Reliability Award by PA Consulting Group. The award recognizes the PA Consulting Group ReliabilityOne™ regional award recipient that demonstrated superior annual system-wide reliability performance for its customers.

The ReliabilityOne™ Awards are given annually to utilities delivering the most reliable electric service to their customers. Con Edison customers in New York City and Westchester County have fewer interruptions than other utilities.

"Con Edison is once again gratified to receive this honor,” said John Miksad, Con Edison senior vice president, Electric Operations. "We strive for continuous improvement to provide safe and reliable service to our customers. The ReliabilityOne™ recognition is a tribute to the Con Edison men and women who deliver electricity to the world’s greatest city, as well as to nearby Westchester County. We appreciate all of the professionals who light up New York and make it their business to provide our customers with the most reliable electric service in North America."

During the hottest summer ever, Con Edison delivered more electricity in July than in any other month on record, while avoiding major power outages. Con Edison delivered 6.9 million megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity that month, eclipsing the record 6.7 million MWh record set in July 2008. No single-day records for peak electric use were set, reflecting the success of company demand side management (DSM) programs, as well as company energy efficiency programs.

All utilities operating electric delivery networks in North America are eligible for consideration for the ReliabilityOneTM Award. There are a total of five regional awards including Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Plains, and West. The selection of provisional recipients is based primarily on system reliability statistics that measure the frequency and duration of customer outages. After provisional recipients are selected, each company undergoes an on-site certification process, which provides an independent review and confirmation of the policies, processes and systems used to collect, analyze and report a company's reliability results.

“Con Edison has set the industry bar for electric system reliability, implementation of exciting new technologies, and total commitment to the safe and effective restoration for customers," said Jeff Lewis, PA's ReliabilityOne™ program director. “Con Edison has demonstrated the best in reliability performance and their customers have been the beneficiaries.”
